Grief    *    Loss    *    Life    *    Wellness

Grieving is the natural and necessary process humans must undergo to resume psychological, physical, and spiritual balance after experiencing loss. Loss occurs when a change in life circumstance requires an individual to adjust to a new way of being in – and understanding of – the world. Life losses can include the death of loved ones, physical illness or cognitive decline, changes in relationships, strained relationships due to substance use or abuse, new phases in life, job transitions and more. Grieving individuals may experience a range of symptoms that if left untreated, can lead to increased levels of anxiety, stress, depression, and pain.

For more than 30 years, The Counseling Center at Stella Maris has helped individuals throughout Maryland navigate their individual grief journeys through a wide range of counseling and educational services that include:

  • Individual and Family Counseling for adults, teens and children ages five (5) and older
  • Group Counseling for Adults
  • Group Counseling for Youth
  • Day Camps for Kids
  • Camp Me Too Overnight Camp for Grieving Kids and Teens
  • Caregiver Support Circles
  • Community Outreach and Talks

The Counseling Center is committed to providing professional, compassionate care that is offered with unconditional regard for the whole person. Counseling services are provided free of charge, for a limited time, to Stella Maris Hospice families and at a nominal fee to anyone in the community who is seeking support for issues such as:

Grief Resources Camp Me Too

Camp Me Too is a three-day, two-night camp held yearly on the last weekend of April. The next Camp Me Too will take place April 24-26, 2020 on the grounds of Camp Puh’Tok, in Monkton, Maryland. Camp Me Too is designed to help grieving children and teens ages 8-17 learn ways to explore their grief through innovative techniques. Activities include art, music, story sharing, camp fires, a ropes course, and healing rituals. This camp is free of charge, but spaces are limited and filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so early registration is encouraged. An in-person interview is required as part of the application process.
