Patient Safety Update

July 29, 2020

We are working diligently to keep our residents and staff safe.

In the good times and during the most difficult times, Stella Maris is there to care for families—and now that commitment is more important than ever.

The employees at Stella Maris are on the frontline fighting to contain the COVID-19 virus and going above and beyond, implementing numerous safety measures to protect residents. For nearly 70 years, Stella Maris has served the most vulnerable members of our community with compassion and dignity.

We are working in close collaboration with Maryland Health Department and Baltimore Health Department officials.  We have tested all residents and are currently testing all employees per Governor Hogan’s Executive Order.

Our extensive safety measures and enhancements include:

Entry Screening – all staff are carefully screened upon entry to the building, including temperature checks.

Daily Screening – of all residents for signs and symptoms of COVID-19.

 Visitor Policies:

  • Only compassionate end-of- life visits in-house.
  • NEW – Outside visits for family and residents under the strict guidelines of the Maryland Department of Health.

Hand Sanitizer – easily accessible upon entry and throughout the building.

Separate COVID-19 Unit – all COVID-19 positive residents are moved to our COVID-19 unit with dedicated, specialized staff.

Social Distancing – social distancing is enforced throughout the building among residents and staff.

Universal Mask Policy – all staff are required to wear masks at all times.

Personal Protective Equipment – all employees providing direct patient care must wear face shield, mask and gown.

Dining Services – all meals are served on disposable tableware and with disposable utensils.

Enhanced Cleaning – frequent cleaning and sanitizing of all high-traffic and high-touch areas.

Stella Maris’ healthcare workers are on the front lines working tirelessly to take care of the neediest among us during this worldwide pandemic. Please assist us in supporting our efforts with a gift to Stella Maris’ COVID Relief Fund
