Benefits at Stella Maris

Stella Maris offers a comprehensive benefits package to both full-time and part-time employees. Many of our benefits are provided on a pretax basis, which will help reduce income taxes and increase your take-home pay. Most of the insurance plans that Stella Maris offers become effective the first of the month following 30 days of employment.

Medical, Prescription Drug and Vision Insurance

Stella Maris currently offers two triple-option medical plans: a Premier Plan and a Standard Plan. Both plans include prescription drug coverage and vision coverage. Prescription and vision coverage are bundled with the health insurance and therefore cannot be elected independently from the medical insurance. In addition, Stella Maris offers a voluntary $0 copay prescription program for brand name prescriptions through CRX International.

Dental Insurance

Stella Maris offers a PPO dental plan. This plan covers diagnostic and preventive services (oral exam, X-rays), general services (fillings, root canals), major services (bridges, crowns) and orthodontics (up to age 19).

Life Insurance Coverage

Basic Life Insurance

Stella Maris provides term life insurance with accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) coverage equal to your annual salary, up to $50,000 of coverage, at no cost to the employee.

Retirement Plans

403(b) Retirement Plan

Stella Maris’ 403(b) retirement plan allows you, in partnership with Mercy Health Services, to save for your retirement. In this plan, you can set aside up to a qualified amount of your gross salary on a pretax basis. This means that you do not pay income taxes on the money you save in a 403(b) plan until you take money out. The interest/earnings on your payroll contributions are also allowed to grow on a tax-deferred basis. Your 403(b) deduction will come out of your paycheck as a percentage of your pay. You must select the percentage that you want to contribute.

Eligibility

You may enroll in the 403(b) retirement plan on the first of the month, following 30 days of employment (or any time thereafter):

  • No age minimum to participate
  • Available to all employees (Flex, PT, and FT)
  • Employer match if you are in a regularly scheduled position of 32 hours or more biweekly

Contributions may begin on the first of the month, following 30 days of service. Employees may be eligible for the employer match the first full quarter after one year of service. In order to be eligible for the employer match, employees must be benefits-eligible (32 hours or more biweekly), and must have worked a minimum of 250 hours in the quarter.

403(b) Catch-Up

If you have reached age 50 or will reach age 50 during the calendar year January 1 through December 31 and are making the maximum pretax contribution under IRS rules, you may make an additional catch-up contribution.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

Stella Maris offers both Health Care and Dependent Care Accounts. These plans provide a method to pay for certain eligible health care expenses and for qualified dependent child care expenses on a pretax basis. Funds may be directed into either or both accounts by authorizing money to be deducted from your paycheck.

Employee Assistance Program (Behavioral Health Services)

This benefit provides a comprehensive and confidential wellness, short-term counseling and referral program for all employees and their household members, regardless of their employment status. The plan also provides financial and legal services.

Tuition Reimbursement

Stella Maris recognizes the value of continued education. Employees who want to develop professionally may apply for reimbursement of tuition and registration costs. Additionally, after one year of employment, an employee who is eligible for tuition reimbursement may apply for a Mercy Education Loan. These loans are made from a fund created by the Sisters of Mercy to assist employees who need funds to begin the education process.

Reimbursement can be given for job-related courses or leading to a job-specific degree. This would include coursework through a campus or online university/college, certificate programs (for example: GNA, CNA and Medicine Aide).

Regular full-time employees and regular part-time employees who are scheduled for 40 hours or more per pay period are eligible for this benefit.
